Highland Books loves local authors! 

If you are interested in having us consider your book for our store, please read this first. 

Once you’ve read that, please review these specifics:

If you are self-published: 

  1. Your book must be professionally bound, finished, and edited. 

  2. The book must have the title on the spine.

  3. The book must be priced consistent with the genre.

  4. Consider buying an ISBN and having a barcode printed on the back cover. It’s difficult to restock your book if we can’t easily track it in our system.

  5. We do not take books on consignment.

  6. If we decide your book is a good fit for our store we generally start with 1-2 copies, depending on genre, and reorder as they sell.

  7. We purchase books at a 60/40 split, paying the author 60% of the retail price. No exceptions.

  8. Book information should be sent by email. We are unable to accommodate walk-in visits without an appointment or telephone inquiries as when our doors are open we’re focused on helping customers, pricing and shelving books, and other day-to-day activities.

  9. When emailing us information about your book please include your name, where you live, your email address, the book title, publication date, the ISBN, a link to a website with info about your book, what your local target audience will be here in Brevard, and how you plan to promote your book if we stock it at Highland Books. Emailing a digital copy or sample of a portion of the book is also a great idea. We do not accept hard copies whether they are dropped off in person or mailed. Any received books will be donated or given away. We do not return unsolicited books.

  10. Send the above information to highlandbooksofbrevard@gmail.com. Please allow us 2-4 weeks to review before following up via email. Please know that we do not review books during the months of November, December, and January.

  11. If we choose to stock your book, you will be placed in the Regional Author section, or other appropriate area, with your book shelved alphabetically by last name. We will keep your contact info on file so that we can contact you when we need to reorder.

If you are traditionally published:

  1. Book information should be sent by email. We are unable to accommodate walk-in visits without an appointment or telephone inquiries as when our doors are open we’re focused on helping customers, pricing and shelving books, and other day-to-day activities.

  2. When emailing us information about your book please include your name, where you live, your email address, the book title, publication date, the ISBN, a link to a website with info about your book, what your local target audience will be here in Brevard, and how you plan to promote your book if we stock it at Highland Books. 

  3. If we decide to stock your book, we will purchase your books through Ingram or another press/publisher if possible.

  4. Send the above information to highlandbooksofbrevard@gmail.com. Please allow us 2-4 weeks to review before following up via email. Know that we do not review books during the months of November, December, and January.
     

We get many requests to carry self-published and traditionally-published books in our store. We only have so much shelf-space and our bookstore (and our customers) aren’t the best match for every author. We know that each author pours his/her heart and soul into his/her work and we wish we could take in every book. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case and we ask that authors understand our limitations.
